System structure

The system is divided into components which run on JavaScript and those which run on PHP, given that eyeOS is a web application.

Saving data and users

The component in charge of saving users and recovering them is called the ‘provider’. It enables us to program the whole system without worrying about the database.

Studying the components

All eyeOS modules fit within one of these six categories: Services, Libraries, Kernel, Framework, Bootstrap, Applications.

Connecting to the database

eyeOS operates with the MySQL database engine by default, although it uses an abstraction layer which enables it to operate with any standard SQL database engine.

Qooxdoo

Qooxdoo is a free software project independent from eyeOS, allowing for the development of an interface which is similar to a desktop interface. The library is available at:www.qooxdoo.org.

Converting documents

The conversion API allows the developer to easily convert Office documents into different formats. For example, converting XLS into ODS, DOC into ODT, or DOC into XHTML.
